Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup Water
  • 1 pound Ground meat (beef, chicken, or pork)
  • 0.5 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2

Cut in the unsalted butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3

Gradually add water, stirring continuously, until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough gently on a floured surface for 2-3 minutes. Cover with a clean towel and set aside.

Step 4

In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant and soft, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes. Stir in the soy sauce, ground black pepper, and fresh parsley or cilantro. Remove the mixture from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 6

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball. Flatten each ball into a disk about 4 inches in diameter.

Step 7

Place 2 tablespoons of the meat filling in the center of each disk. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch them together to seal, forming a small patty.

Step 8

In a large pot, bring water to a gentle boil. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

Step 9

Carefully drop the patty cakes into the boiling water, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Boil for 10-12 minutes or until the dough becomes tender and cooked through.

Step 10

Remove the patty cakes with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a plate. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Step 11

Serve warm as a main dish or alongside a dipping sauce of your choice.
