  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.75 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.25 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 3 pieces large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed and patted dry)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for coating blueberries)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for optional topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Reduce the mixer speed to low and alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix just until combined; do not overmix.
