Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 4 cups water
  • 3 black tea bags
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 inch piece fresh ginger
  • 3 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 5 leaves fresh mint leaves (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh blackberries and set them aside.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, cinnamon stick, and fresh ginger. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

Step 3

Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes to allow the cinnamon and ginger to infuse.

Step 4

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the black tea bags. Let the tea steep for 5 minutes.

Step 5

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mash the blackberries with the back of a spoon or a fork to release their juices.

Step 6

Strain the tea mixture into a large pitcher to remove the cinnamon stick, ginger, and tea bags. Discard them.

Step 7

Add the mashed blackberries (along with their juices), sugar or honey, and lemon juice to the pitcher. Stir until the sugar or honey is fully dissolved.

Step 8

Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill.

Step 9

To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled blackberry tea over the ice.

Step 10

Garnish with fresh mint leaves, if desired, and enjoy!
