Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Ground turkey sausage (or low-fat sausage)
  • 0.5 cup Onion, finely diced
  • 0.75 cup Reduced-fat shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 large Egg whites (or liquid egg substitute)
  • 1 cup Skim milk
  • 0.5 cup Heart-healthy Bisquick mix
  • 1 as needed Cooking spray
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly coat a 9-inch pie pan with cooking spray and set aside.

Step 2

In a medium skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey sausage and diced onion until the sausage is no longer pink and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat and transfer the mixture into the prepared pie pan, spreading it out evenly.

Step 3

Sprinkle the reduced-fat shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage and onion mixture.

Step 4

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg whites (or liquid egg substitute), skim milk, heart-healthy Bisquick mix, salt (if using), and black pepper until you have a smooth batter.

Step 5

Pour the batter evenly over the sausage and cheese in the pie pan.

Step 6

Carefully transfer the pie pan to the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set. A toothpick inserted into the middle should come out clean.

Step 7

Let the pie rest for 5 minutes before slicing into 6 equal portions. Serve warm and enjoy!
