Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 0.5 cup dry white wine (or chicken broth)
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 8 ounces cooked pasta (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

If serving with pasta, cook the pasta according to package instructions. Reserve about 1/4 cup of the pasta water and set the pasta aside.

Step 2

Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of butter and the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet, stirring constantly, and cook for about 1 minute or until fragrant (be careful not to burn the garlic).

Step 5

Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side, just until pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.

Step 6

Deglaze the skillet by adding the white wine (or chicken broth) and lemon juice. Stir well, scraping the bottom of the skillet to release any flavorful bits. Allow the mixture to simmer for 2 minutes to reduce slightly.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low and stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter until melted and the sauce is silky.

Step 8

Add the cooked shrimp back into the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. If necessary, add a splash of reserved pasta water to loosen the sauce.

Step 9

Remove from heat, sprinkle with chopped parsley, and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Step 10

Serve immediately over cooked pasta or with crusty bread to soak up the sauce. Enjoy!
