Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground beef
  • 1 large Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 large Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Diced tomatoes (canned)
  • 15 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 15 ounces Kidney beans (canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 15 ounces Black beans (canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano (dried)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegetable oil and allow it to warm up for 1 minute.

Step 2

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess grease and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning.

Step 4

Transfer the cooked beef, onion, and garlic to a large crock pot (slow cooker).

Step 5

Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, black beans, and beef broth to the crock pot, stirring to combine.

Step 6

Sprinkle in the chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir everything well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.

Step 7

Cover the crock pot with its lid and set to cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally.

Step 8

Taste the chili and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.

Step 9

Serve hot with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, or crushed tortilla chips. Enjoy!
