Ingredients

  • 24 pieces Fresh shucked oysters
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • 4 pieces Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the fresh shucked oysters under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Set them aside.

Step 2

In a medium-sized bowl, pour the buttermilk. Add the oysters to the buttermilk and let them soak for 10 minutes while preparing the coating.

Step 3

In a separate large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the correct temperature.

Step 5

Remove an oyster from the buttermilk, allowing any excess liquid to drip off, and toss it into the seasoned flour mixture. Gently press the oyster to fully coat it, then shake off any excess coating. Repeat with the remaining oysters.

Step 6

Carefully lower a few coated oysters into the hot oil using a slotted spoon, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches for about 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Step 7

Transfer the fried oysters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Repeat with the remaining oysters.

Step 8

Serve the oysters immediately, garnished with fresh parsley if desired, and accompanied by lemon wedges for a zesty twist. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce or as part of a larger seafood feast!
