Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup warm water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 0.25 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and add the butter, stirring until melted. Stir in the sugar and salt and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk mixture, yeast mixture, and eggs. Mix well.

Step 4

Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle, about 12x18 inches.

Step 7

Brush the surface of the dough with orange juice and sprinkle the orange zest evenly over it.

Step 8

Roll the dough tightly into a log, starting from the long edge. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.

Step 9

Place the rolls onto a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, cut side up, leaving a little space between each piece. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 11

While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze by whisking the powdered sugar and remaining orange juice together until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more juice if needed.

Step 12

Once the orange rolls are slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
