Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (for filling)
  • 2.5 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (softened, for filling)
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese (softened, for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the milk in a small saucepan over low heat until warm (about 110°F/43°C). Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and butter until melted. Cool slightly if too hot.

Step 2

Sprinkle the yeast over the warm milk mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, eggs, flour, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 16x12-inch rectangle.

Step 7

Spread the softened butter evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Step 8

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 9

Carefully roll the dough tightly from the long edge to form a log. Slice the log into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 10

Cover the dish with a towel and let the rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 11

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and set in the center.

Step 12

While the rolls bake, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.

Step 13

Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool for about 10 minutes. Spread the frosting generously over the warm rolls.

Step 14

Serve immediately and enjoy the gooey, delicious cinnamon rolls with family and friends!
