Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized Apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup Rolled oats
  • 0.75 cup Light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter (cold, diced into small cubes)
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Place the apple slices into a large mixing bowl.

Step 3

Add the granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon to the apples. Toss everything together until the apples are well coated. Transfer the apples to the prepared baking dish, spreading them out evenly.

Step 4

In a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Step 5

Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 6

Evenly sprinkle the buttery crumble mixture over the apples in the baking dish.

Step 7

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple mixture is bubbling.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
