Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 0.25 cup dark rum
  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until fully melted and bubbling.

Step 2

Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon. Keep stirring until the sugar is dissolved and a smooth caramel sauce forms, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Peel the bananas and slice them lengthwise into halves. Add the bananas to the skillet, cut-side down, and sauté them gently for 1-2 minutes until slightly softened and coated in the caramel sauce.

Step 4

Carefully turn the bananas over to coat the other side, cooking for another minute. Take care not to let them become too soft or mushy.

Step 5

If using vanilla extract, stir it into the sauce now for extra flavor.

Step 6

Step back from the stove and carefully pour the rum into the skillet. Use a long lighter or match to ignite the rum (optional, for flambé). Allow the flames to burn out completely while gently shaking the pan to mix the flavors.

Step 7

Once the flames have subsided and the alcohol has cooked off, remove the skillet from the heat.

Step 8

Spoon the caramelized bananas and sauce over scoops of vanilla ice cream in serving bowls.

Step 9

Serve immediately for a warm, gooey, and delicious dessert experience.
