Ingredients

  • 2 racks (about 4 lbs total) Baby back ribs
  • 2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1.5 cups Barbecue sauce

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the ribs by removing the membrane on the underside of the rack. Use a knife to loosen the edge, then grip it with a paper towel and pull it off.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) to make a dry rub.

Step 3

Rub the spice mixture generously and evenly onto both sides of the ribs.

Step 4

Cut the racks of ribs into halves or thirds, depending on the size of your slow cooker, so they fit properly.

Step 5

Place the ribs in the slow cooker, standing them upright with the meaty side facing outward. This helps ensure even cooking.

Step 6

Pour 1 cup of the barbecue sauce over the ribs, coating them well. Reserve the remaining 0.5 cups for later.

Step 7

Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low for 8 hours, or on high for 4–5 hours, until the ribs are tender and the meat easily pulls away from the bones.

Step 8

Preheat your oven’s broiler or set a grill to high heat.

Step 9

Carefully remove the ribs from the slow cooker and place them on a foil-lined baking sheet or grill rack.

Step 10

Brush the ribs with the reserved 0.5 cups of barbecue sauce.

Step 11

Broil or grill the ribs for 4–5 minutes, or until the sauce caramelizes and becomes sticky. Watch closely to avoid burning.

Step 12

Remove the ribs from the oven or grill, let them rest for a couple of minutes, and serve warm with your favorite sides.
