Ingredients

  • 3 large apples (peeled, cored, and diced)
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup raisins (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the diced apples, cranberries, granulated sugar, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and water. Stir well to combine.

Step 2

Add the grated fresh ginger, cinnamon stick, ground cloves, orange zest, and salt. If using raisins, stir those in as well.

Step 3

Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to ensure the sugar dissolves.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries should burst, and the chutney will thicken as it cooks.

Step 5

Once the mixture has thickened and the apples are tender, remove the saucepan from the heat. Discard the cinnamon stick.

Step 6

Allow the chutney to cool to room temperature. The chutney will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.

Step 7

Transfer the chutney to a sterilized jar or airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Step 8

Serve cold or at room temperature as a condiment or side dish. Enjoy!
