Ingredients

  • 6 medium ripe tomatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 green chilies
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
  • 1 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Chop the onions finely. Puree the tomatoes in a blender until smooth. Mince the garlic and ginger together into a paste.

Heat the cooking oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter for a few seconds.

Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
