Ingredients

  • 6 medium (about 2 pounds) Russet potatoes
  • 4 large Garlic cloves
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon (plus more to taste) Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon (plus more to taste) Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped Parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks (about 1.5-inch pieces).

Step 2

Place the potatoes in a large pot and add cold water until the potatoes are completely submerged. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.

Step 3

Peel the garlic cloves and lightly smash them with the side of a knife. Add the garlic to the pot with the potatoes.

Step 4

Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Step 5

While the potatoes cook, heat the butter, heavy cream, and milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until the butter has melted. Stir to combine, then set aside.

Step 6

Once the potatoes are done, drain them in a colander, then return them to the warm pot. Discard the garlic cloves or mash them with the potatoes for extra flavor, depending on your preference.

Step 7

Use a potato masher or a ricer to mash the potatoes until they’re smooth and lump-free.

Step 8

Gradually stir in the warm butter-cream mixture until the mashed potatoes are creamy and well-combined. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Step 9

Transfer the garlic mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped parsley, if using. Serve warm and enjoy!
