Ingredients

  • 113 grams unsalted butter
  • 113 grams cream cheese
  • 180 grams all-purpose flour
  • 50 grams granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and finely diced)
  • 50 grams brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 30 grams chopped pecans (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the butter and cream cheese until smooth and creamy using a hand or stand mixer.

Step 2

Gradually add the flour to the butter-cream cheese mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 3

Divide the dough into 24 equal pieces, roll each piece into a ball, and press them evenly into the wells of a mini muffin tin to form small pastry shells. Chill the prepared shells in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 4

While the shells chill, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 5

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves.

Step 6

Add the diced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract to the saucepan and cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the apples are tender but not mushy. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.

Step 7

Optionally, stir in chopped pecans for added texture and flavor.

Step 8

Once the filling has slightly cooled, spoon about 1 teaspoon of the apple mixture into each chilled pastry shell.

Step 9

Bake the apple tassies in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the shells are golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Step 10

Remove the tassies from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Serve the apple tassies at room temperature, optionally dusted with powdered sugar for an elegant touch.
