Ingredients

  • 500 grams Mascarpone cheese
  • 5 large Egg yolks
  • 100 grams Granulated sugar
  • 200 ml Heavy cream
  • 300 ml Espresso coffee
  • 200 grams Ladyfingers (Savoiardi biscuits)
  • 2 tablespoons Amaretto or Marsala wine (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using, mix the coffee with the Amaretto or Marsala wine and set aside.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until the mixture becomes thick, pale, and creamy. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the egg yolk mixture until smooth and fully combined.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms soft peaks. Be careful not to overwhip.

Step 5

Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture in several additions until combined and smooth.

Step 6

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso, ensuring they are soaked but not overly soggy, and arrange them in a single layer at the bottom of a rectangular or square dish.

Step 7

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture evenly over the soaked ladyfingers.

Step 8

Repeat the layering process with another layer of coffee-soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture, spreading it smoothly over the top.

Step 9

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and set properly.

Step 10

Before serving, sift the unsweetened cocoa powder evenly over the top of the tiramisu.

Step 11

Serve chilled and enjoy this indulgent Italian classic.
