Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 3 medium Yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Cremini mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat until the butter has melted and begins to foam.

Step 2

Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and golden brown.

Step 3

Push the onions to one side of the skillet and add the sliced cremini mushrooms to the other side. Cook without stirring for 2-3 minutes to allow the mushrooms to brown.

Step 4

Stir the onions and mushrooms together, then add the minced garlic and thyme leaves. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant.

Step 5

Season the mixture with salt and black pepper. Stir well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 6

Drizzle the balsamic vinegar over the mushrooms and onions. Stir to coat and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the vinegar slightly reduces and glazes the vegetables.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from heat. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Step 8

Transfer the mushrooms and onions to a serving dish and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately.
