Ingredients

  • 500 grams Mushrooms (button, cremini, or a mix)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 Garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel or brushing off any dirt. Avoid rinsing them under water to maintain their flavor and texture. Slice the mushrooms evenly into 1/4-inch thick pieces.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and 1 tablespoon of the butter, allowing them to melt and coat the bottom of the skillet.

Step 3

Once the butter begins to foam, add the sliced mushrooms in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding the pan to allow the mushrooms to brown properly.

Step 4

Let the mushrooms cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to allow one side to caramelize. Stir them gently and let them cook for another 3-4 minutes until golden brown and tender.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic and fresh thyme (if using). Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic becomes fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Step 6

Season the mushrooms with salt and black pepper, and toss to evenly distribute the seasoning.

Step 7

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter to the skillet and stir to give the mushrooms a glossy finish.

Step 8

Transfer the sautéed mushrooms to a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and added freshness.

Step 9

Serve immediately as a side dish or use as a topping for steaks, pasta, or toast.
