About Trans fat

Trans fat, also known as trans fatty acid, is a type of unsaturated fat typically created through an industrial process called hydrogenation, which adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them solid. Found in partially hydrogenated oils, trans fat is commonly used in baked goods, fried foods, margarine, and some processed snacks to enhance flavor, texture, and shelf life. While naturally-occurring trans fats exist in small amounts in meat and dairy, the majority of trans fats consumed are artificial. Trans fat is considered the unhealthiest type of dietary fat, as it raises bad cholesterol (LDL), lowers good cholesterol (HDL), and significantly increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Many countries have restricted or banned its use in food products due to its harmful effects. Limiting trans fat intake is essential for maintaining cardiovascular health and overall well-being.
