Ingredients

  • 2 slices Turkish bread (vegan, check labels for dairy-free ingredients)
  • 50 grams Vegan cheese (mozzarella or cheddar-style)
  • 50 grams Vegan sucuk (Turkish vegan sausage, or substitute with a smoky vegan sausage)
  • 1 tablespoon Vegan margarine or plant-based butter
  • 4 slices Tomato (thinly sliced)
  • 4 slices Pickles (thinly sliced)
  • 2 teaspoons Ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Ground black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a panini press or stovetop grill pan to medium heat.

Step 2

Slice the Turkish bread into two even slices, if not already pre-sliced, and lightly spread the inner sides with vegan margarine or plant-based butter.

Step 3

Grate the vegan cheese if it’s in block form, and slice the vegan sucuk into thin rounds.

Step 4

On the bottom slice of the bread, layer the grated vegan cheese evenly. Add the slices of vegan sucuk, tomato, and pickles on top of the cheese.

Step 5

Drizzle ketchup and mustard over the vegetable and vegan sausage layer. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and ground black pepper to taste.

Step 6

Top with the second slice of bread, margarine side facing outward to ensure a crispy and golden finish.

Step 7

Place the sandwich onto the preheated panini press or grill pan. If using a grill pan, press down gently with a spatula for even toasting.

Step 8

Cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy, and the vegan cheese has melted.

Step 9

Remove the tost from the press or pan, slice in half diagonally, and serve immediately. Pair with hot tea or fresh-squeezed orange juice for an authentic Turkish experience.
