Ingredients

  • 200 grams Firm tofu
  • 100 grams Shiitake mushrooms
  • 50 grams Carrot
  • 50 grams Water chestnuts
  • 50 grams Green peas
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon White pepper
  • 20 pieces Round dumpling wrappers

Directions

Step 1

Start by pressing the firm tofu to remove excess water. Wrap it in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for about 15 minutes.

Step 2

Finely dice the shiitake mushrooms, carrot, and water chestnuts. Set them aside.

Step 3

Once the tofu is pressed, crumble it into small pieces in a large mixing bowl.

Step 4

Add the diced shiitake mushrooms, carrot, water chestnuts, and green peas to the tofu.

Step 5

In a separate small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and white pepper.

Step 6

Pour the soy sauce mixture over the tofu and vegetables, then mix everything until well combined.

Step 7

Take a dumpling wrapper and place it in the palm of your hand. Add about one tablespoon of filling to the center.

Step 8

Gently fold and pleat the edges of the wrapper around the filling, leaving the top open. Press to secure the filling.

Step 9

Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

Step 10

Prepare a steamer and bring water to a boil. Lightly oil the steamer basket to prevent sticking.

Step 11

Place the Siew Mai in the steamer basket, ensuring they don't touch.

Step 12

Steam the dumplings over boiling water for 10-12 minutes or until the wrappers become translucent.

Step 13

Remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve them hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
