Ingredients

  • 4 cups Canned navy beans
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 1 cup Ketchup
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Pepper
  • 0.5 cup Water (or reserved liquid from the beans)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).

Step 2

Drain and rinse the canned navy beans, reserving 1/2 cup of the liquid if desired.

Step 3

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan, leaving the rendered fat behind, and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.

Step 4

Add the diced onion to the skillet with the bacon fat. Sauté over medium heat until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and water (or reserved bean liquid). Mix well to create the sauce base.

Step 6

Crumble the cooked bacon into small pieces and add it to the sauce mixture.

Step 7

In a large oven-safe baking dish, add the drained navy beans and sautéed onions. Pour the sauce mixture over the beans, stirring to ensure everything is evenly coated.

Step 8

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours.

Step 9

After 1.5 hours, remove the foil and stir the beans. Increase the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake uncovered for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the beans are thick and bubbling.

Step 10

Remove the beans from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve hot as a side dish or enjoy on their own!
