Ingredients

  • 1 piece round loaf of soft Italian bread
  • 1.5 cups olive salad
  • 6 ounces sliced Genoa salami
  • 6 ounces sliced mortadella
  • 4 ounces sliced capicola
  • 4 ounces sliced provolone cheese
  • 4 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Using a serrated knife, slice the round loaf of Italian bread in half horizontally. Hollow out a bit of the soft interior on both halves to make room for the fillings.

Step 2

Spread 3/4 cup of olive salad evenly over the cut side of the bottom half of the bread. Press it down slightly to help it adhere.

Step 3

Layer the Genoa salami, mortadella, capicola, provolone cheese, and mozzarella cheese on top of the olive salad in even layers.

Step 4

Spread the remaining 3/4 cup of olive salad over the cut side of the top bread half.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, and black pepper. Drizzle this mixture evenly over the olive salad on both halves of the bread.

Step 6

Place the top half of the loaf onto the layered fillings, pressing down gently but firmly to compact all the ingredients.

Step 7

Wrap the entire sandwich tightly in plastic wrap. Place it on a plate or tray and top it with a small, heavy object (such as a cast iron skillet or a couple of heavy cans) to compress it further. Let it sit at room temperature for at least 1 hour to meld the flavors.

Step 8

After resting, unwrap the sandwich, slice it into wedges or quarters, and serve immediately. Enjoy!
