Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 stalks celery, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 as needed for greasing olive oil or cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a large baking dish with olive oil or cooking spray and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up into crumbles with a spoon. Transfer the cooked sausage to a large mixing bowl and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and celery, and sauté for 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Step 4

Add the sautéed vegetables to the bowl with the cooked sausage. Stir in the cubed bread, fresh parsley, dried sage, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper.

Step 5

In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth and beaten eggs until well combined. Pour the mixture over the bread and sausage mixture, and gently toss everything together until the bread is evenly moistened. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let the stuffing cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
