Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 cups Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Parsley, chopped
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 12 Lasagna noodles
  • 0.25 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Add the garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional minute.

Step 4

Stir in the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook, breaking the meat apart, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.

Step 5

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and water. Stir to combine. Simmer the sauce over low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Cook the lasagna noodles in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking.

Step 7

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley. Stir until smooth and set aside.

Step 8

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the dish.

Step 9

Place 3-4 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce to create the first layer.

Step 10

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by 1/3 of the meat sauce. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and a handful of Parmesan over the top.

Step 11

Repeat the layers two more times: noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and cheeses.

Step 12

Finish with a layer of noodles, the remaining sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.

Step 13

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 14

Remove from the oven and let the lasagna cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
