Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 cup Onion
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 12 Corn tortillas
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.5 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream (optional)
  • 0.5 cup Salsa (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook for about 5 minutes, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it browns.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in the chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Combine well with the beef mixture. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, then remove from heat.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accurate temperature management.

Step 5

While the oil heats, spoon about 2 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto one half of each corn tortilla. Fold the other half of the tortilla over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press gently to seal.

Step 6

Carefully place the filled tortillas into the hot oil, frying 2-3 tacos at a time. Fry each taco for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to flip them carefully.

Step 7

Remove the fried tacos from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining tacos.

Step 8

Fill each taco with shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and any additional toppings like sour cream or salsa.

Step 9

Serve immediately for the best crunch and flavor. Enjoy these homemade fried tacos just like Mom used to make!
