Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 unit large egg
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Warm the milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until it’s warm to the touch but not hot (about 105-115°F). Remove from heat and add the 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter to melt. Stir in the granulated sugar and let cool slightly.

Step 2

Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the milk mixture, gently stir, and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of the all-purpose flour and the salt. Pour the milk and yeast mixture into the bowl, add the egg, and mix until a dough forms.

Step 4

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, adding more flour as needed (up to 1/2 cup) until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 6

In a small bowl, combine the light brown sugar and ground cinnamon for the filling.

Step 7

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle about 15 inches by 9 inches.

Step 8

Spread the softened butter (6 tablespoons) evenly over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top, covering the entire surface.

Step 9

Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 12 even rolls.

Step 10

Place the rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffy.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 12

To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.

Step 13

Spread the glaze over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve immediately. Enjoy!
