Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 inches fresh ginger root
  • 1 whole lemon
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 stick cinnamon stick
  • 0.5 teaspoons turmeric powder
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 pinch optional cayenne pepper

Directions

Step 1

Peel and slice the fresh ginger root into thin pieces.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.

Step 3

Add the sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, and turmeric powder to the boiling water.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 8–10 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

Step 5

While the mixture simmers, slice the lemon in half. Reserve one half for juicing and the other half for garnish if desired.

Step 6

After simmering, strain the liquid into two mugs to remove the ginger and cinnamon stick.

Step 7

Stir in 2 tablespoons of raw honey, the juice of half the lemon, and a pinch of black pepper into each mug.

Step 8

For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper if preferred.

Step 9

Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity to your liking by adding more honey or lemon juice.

Step 10

Serve warm and sip slowly to enjoy the soothing effects.
