Ingredients

  • 3 cups canned navy beans
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar
  • 0.25 cups ketchup
  • 0.25 cups molasses
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.5 cups water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it becomes crispy. Remove the bacon pieces with a slotted spoon and set them aside, leaving the rendered bacon fat in the skillet.

Step 3

Add the diced onion to the skillet with the bacon fat and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until the onions soften and become translucent.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and water. Stir well to create the sauce.

Step 5

Add the sautéed onion, crispy bacon, and canned navy beans (drained and rinsed) to the sauce. Mix everything thoroughly to ensure the beans are well-coated.

Step 6

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches). Spread it out evenly.

Step 7

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 30 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and the beans are bubbling.

Step 9

Let the baked beans rest for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
