Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter (filling)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Whole milk (glaze)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of whole milk until warm (not hot). Add 1/4 cup of unsalted butter and stir until melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool to lukewarm temperature.

Step 2

Pour the warm milk mixture into a large mixing bowl. Stir in 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and sprinkle 2 1/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Step 3

Add 1 large egg and mix to combine. Gradually add 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt, stirring until a dough forms.

Step 4

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon. Set aside.

Step 7

Punch down the risen dough and roll it out onto a floured surface into a 12x16-inch rectangle. Spread 1/4 cup of softened unsalted butter evenly over the surface.

Step 8

Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 9

Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Use a sharp knife or dental floss to cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Step 10

Place the slices into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.

Step 12

In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of whole milk to make the glaze.

Step 13

Allow the rolls to cool slightly before drizzling the glaze over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
