Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Fresh fish fillets (such as cod, haddock, or catfish)
  • 120 grams All-purpose flour
  • 60 grams Cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 120 milliliters Milk
  • 500 milliliters Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 4 pieces Lemon wedges (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and set aside.

Step 2

In a shallow dish, combine all-purpose flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create the dry coating.

Step 3

In another shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk to create the wet batter.

Step 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F). To test if the oil is ready, drop in a small piece of the coating mixture—it should sizzle immediately but not burn.

Step 5

While the oil heats, coat a fish fillet by dredging it first in the dry coating, then dipping it into the wet batter, and finally dredging it again in the dry coating. Ensure the fish is evenly coated. Repeat this process for all fillets.

Step 6

Carefully place the coated fillets into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the fish for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the fish flakes easily with a fork.

Step 7

Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried fish from the oil, and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Step 8

Serve the fried fish hot with lemon wedges on the side for a zesty finish. Pair with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw or fries, for a complete meal.
