Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium, finely diced Onion
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 cup, sliced Mushrooms
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped (optional for garnish) Parsley

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined but do not overmix.

Step 2

Form the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.

Step 5

Add the butter to the skillet and let it melt. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.

Step 6

Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Add the garlic powder and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes until thickened.

Step 7

Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Cover and let them simmer in the gravy for 10-12 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked through.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Sprinkle with chopped parsley, if desired.

Step 9

Serve the Salisbury steaks hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables.
