Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 4 large Garlic cloves
  • 1.5 teaspoons Crushed red pepper flakes
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 0.5 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large saucepan over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 2

Once the oil is shimmering, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 3

Sprinkle in the crushed red pepper flakes and stir for 30 seconds to release their flavor.

Step 4

Add the canned crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the saucepan and stir well to combine.

Step 5

Pour in the water to thin the sauce slightly, then stir again.

Step 6

Add the salt, sugar, dried oregano, and dried basil to the sauce. Stir everything together.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 8

Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning, if needed. Add more salt, sugar, or spice according to preference.

Step 9

Stir in the chopped fresh parsley and black pepper during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

Step 10

Serve hot over pasta, use as a pizza sauce, or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
