Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 0.5 cup Cooked quinoa
  • 0.5 cup Cooked bulgur wheat
  • 0.25 cup Rolled oats (lightly pulsed in a food processor)
  • 2 tbsp Flaxseed meal
  • 0.25 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 Egg
  • 0.5 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 cup Yellow onion (finely diced)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 4 Tomato slices
  • 8 Pickle slices
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 0.25 cup Mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked quinoa, cooked bulgur wheat, rolled oats, flaxseed meal, and panko breadcrumbs.

Step 2

Add the egg, shredded cheddar cheese, diced onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Gently mix until all ingredients are evenly combined. Do not overmix to avoid tough burgers.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties. Press slightly in the center of each patty to create an indentation; this helps the burgers cook evenly without puffing up.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat and add olive oil to coat the surface.

Step 5

Place the burger patties onto the skillet or grill and cook for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium-well. Adjust cooking time as needed for desired doneness.

Step 6

While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on a grill or in a toaster oven until golden brown.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers: Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the cooked burger patty. Top with a tomato slice, pickle slices, and your choice of ketchup or mayonnaise.

Step 8

Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger and serve immediately with your favorite side dishes, such as fries or a salad.
